New Insights Into Jaw Growth in Infants with Robin Sequence

Infants born with Robin sequence often experience breathing and feeding difficulties caused by an underdeveloped lower jaw. Understanding whether the mandible can "catch up" in growth during early infancy has long been debated. This study tracked facial profile changes in infants across their first year of life. Using non-invasive three-dimensional imaging, researchers measured jaw dimensions and facial angles over time and compared infants with Robin sequence to healthy peers. The findings showed that both groups experienced natural reductions in jaw disproportions over the first year, with evidence of gradual catch-up growth in affected infants. These results suggest that early, supportive treatment approaches may help promote more balanced craniofacial development.
