Multitarget Compound Strengthens Tomato Defenses Against TYLCV

A research team has identified YYH-6, a newly synthesized pyrimidine-guanidine derivative, as a promising antiviral candidate for protecting tomato plants from tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV). Applied to leaves, the compound sharply reduced viral accumulation, eased leaf curling and stunting, and activated several layers of the plant's own immune and metabolic defenses. The study further showed that YYH-6 does not appear to rely on a single target. Instead, it regulates defense genes while interacting with host proteins that the virus may use during infection. This multitarget strategy offers a potential route toward more durable, environmentally responsible control of one of the most destructive viral diseases affecting tomato production worldwide.
