Topic Overview

Surgery on the veins to keep them from draining blood from the penis is called venous ligation. It is no longer done.

Surgery to repair blood vessels may be done for some men who have erection problems.

Penile revascularization

This surgery is most often done in younger men who have injuries that affect blood flow to the penis. During surgery, part of a blood vessel is taken from the belly. It is then used to bypass the damaged part of the artery that supplies blood to the penis.
