Antihistamines for Morning Sickness

Certain antihistamines such as dimenhydrinate or doxylamine, taken as your doctor advises, may relieve morning sickness.footnote 1 Doxylamine (Unisom SleepTabs) is available over-the-counter. If one of these antihistamines alone does not relieve your morning sickness, you can try taking it with vitamin B6.footnote 1 Talk to your doctor about the right dose.

Note: Do not confuse Unisom SleepTabs with Unisom SleepGels, which contain a different medicine.

If home treatment does not work for you, talk to your doctor about medicine that may help relieve your symptoms.

Common side effects of these medicines may include:

  • Drowsiness.
  • Dry mouth, nose, or throat.
  • Stomach upset.
