Tests & Diagnostic Procedures

Listed below are some of the tests and procedures your doctor most likely will recommend if you have infertility. Select a test to learn why it is done, how it is done, if there are any risks involved, and what the results mean.

Testing to determine the cause of infertility usually starts with simple tests for both partners. In addition to an interview and physical examinations, initial tests will check semen quality and both partners' hormone levels in the blood. Hormone imbalances can be a sign of ovulation or sperm production problems that can be treated. If your initial test results show no cause of infertility, your doctor may recommend checking fallopian tube function. Depending on your age and other risk factors, your doctor may suggest further testing or begin treatment
